SEED BREEDING
Innovation is the centerpiece of Bayer to deliver integral solutions. In addition to the traditional genetic breeding processes, Bayer has the best geneticists, a wide genetic diversity and the largest germplasm bank, as well as the capacity for characterization of lines, the highest technology of molecular markers and a great speed of integration and response of all these factors.
-José Luis Gonzalez, Bayer's Technology Development Leader for the Americas
Advances in Bayer's biological products through partnerships with other companies and the development of new technologies such as RNAi gene activation to improve the organoleptic defenses and characteristics of the crop will allow us in the very near future to move from a prescriptive solution to an integral one that can be incorporated to the genetics to determine what hybrid to plant, when to plant, and what technological package to apply.
Mexico is a very challenging market for the development and selection of commercial varieties due to its diverse climatic conditions, forms of production, and variety of pests. However, thanks to the availability of Bayer's high technology and tools, and the constant feedback we receive from producers through our long chain of business partners, we can reduce the development cycle of new products to a minimum, and offer better varieties to the market right when it needs them.
"Ahern and Bayer select, test, evaluate, and launch new superior genetics with close cooperation and collaboration, focusing on delivering outstanding products and more productive varieties to the grower and more nutritious and better-tasting crops for the consumer at more affordable prices," says Kevin Ahern, CEO of Ahern Agribusiness, Inc.
COMBINATION OF GENETICS
Technology continues to revolutionize all industries, including agriculture. To remain competitive in this landscape, it is essential that growers utilize the best practices and technology on their farms. Bayer and Ahern work diligently to facilitate this process through access to practical information that is actionable. With initiatives like Ahern Integrated Solutions and Bayer’s Climate Corp, both companies are committed to helping farms be more efficient and productive.
Ahern and Bayer have been growing together successfully for the past few years due to the alignment in strategies. In the case of Ahern Integrated Solutions, there's a focus on direct support and added value beyond the sale of the seed. And, in the case of Bayer, different technologies available provide an integral value to the farmer. Together, we focus of producing more, conserving more, and improve our farmer's environment.

VEGETABLE SEEDS
The synergy between Ahern and Bayer's vegetable seed division is an example of the extensive work we have done in Mexico.
"The support Ahern has shown for all Seminis/DeRuiter materials has been very important, characterized by constant innovation, hybrids of excellent growth potential and a high-quality post-sales support to the grower. Ahern is not only a seed distributor, it is also a service provider," says Omar Castro, Sales Manager México Norte de Seminis/DeRuiter. The experience of winter tomatoes and shade houses of Ahern in Baja California Norte has contributed to the success of DeRuiter's Multifort rootstock, which allows the farmer to work with different types of varieties and is the most stable rootstock according to results in the field. In the south, where production has flourished in a high-tech controlled environment, the benefits of this co-operation has been particularly reflected in the pepper market; a crop in which Seminis has worked with materials such as Darsena and SV9908PB. In the production of this crop in the open field in Sinaloa, this same synergy has been so successful that the hybrid SV1675PB has become an Ahern exclusive.
Together we have developed new varieties in many segments such as: tomatoes, hot peppers, onions, squash, bell pepper. We are always looking for added value for the producer, a profit in greater yield, better resistances, and, above all, a better quality final product.
"Ahern is a company in constant growth and with opportunities in new markets," says Castro.
Andres Revollo, Leader of Customer Experience for North America and Marketing Operation, mentions that in recent years the increase in the participation of Seminis in the onions market in Northern Mexico has been highlighted. Through Ahern’s experience and knowledge we can offer hybrids of very good quality to the farmer, with the vision to analyze new options and alternatives for the market.
"Ahern without a doubt, is Seminis' best distributor in Mexico," says Revollo.
